CIAA Football Players of the Week- Week Seven

Offensive Lineman of the Week: Melvin Rogers, Chowan

Position:  LG  Height:  6-3  Weight:  320  Class:  Sr  Hometown:  Margarettesville NC 
Comments:  Melvin Rogers helped to anchor the Hawks' line this week in a 42-33 win over Livingstone. The Hawks amassed over 580 yds. of total offense in the win. 

Receiver of the Week:  Josh Barrett, Chowan

Position:  WR  Height:  6-1  Weight:  190  Class:  SO  Hometown:  Amherst NY 
Comments:  Josh Barrett grabbed a career high five catches for 135 yards and two scores in a 42-33 win over Livingstone Saturday. Barrett's long was 48 yds. on which he hit paydirt to spread the Hawks' lead. 

Offensive Back of the Week: Creven Powell, Elizabeth City State

Position:  QB  Height:  6-2  Weight:  180  Class:  JR  Hometown:  Elizabeth City, NC 
Comments:  Powell passed for a career high 314 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Vikings' loss to Bowie State. His longest pass was a 78- yard touchdown strike to Reggie Smith. He also carried the ball 4 times for 13 yards and rushed for a 1-yard TD run.  

Defensive Lineman of the Week: Marcus Crump, Saint Augustine'

Position:  DE  Height:  R-Sr.  Weight:  6-6  Class:  235  Hometown:  Pittsboro, NC 
Comments:  Crump recorded 3 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss and 7 total tackles (5 solo, 2 assisted) in a 27-9 win over Johnson C. Smith. Crump helped lead a defense which held the Golden Bulls to -2 net rushing yards and 139 total offensive yards. Crump was 1 1/2 sacks off the school record. 

Linebacker of the Week:  Gerard Atkinson, Fayetteville State

Position:  LB  Height:  6-1  Weight:  208  Class:  SR  Hometown:  Yonkers, NY 
Comments:  Atkinson intercepted a Bears' pass on its second drive of the game for a Broncos 72-yard touchdown return. It was the third longest interception return in FSU history. Atkinson finished with 13 tackles...1 tackle for a loss of 1 yard and 1 int. for 72 yards. 

Defensive Back of the Week: Terence Peete, Jr., Bowie State

Position:  DB  Height:  6-4  Weight:  237  Class:  Jr.  Hometown:  Memphis, TN 
Comments:  Peete tied for team-high tackle honors with eight, which included one for a loss and recovered a fumble. That fumble recovery was then returned 33 yards for the winning touchdown against the Vikings of Elizabeth City State. 

Rookie of the Week:  Emmanuel Yeager, Bowie State

Position:  QB  Height:  6-2  Weight:  195  Class:  Fr.  Hometown:  New Carrolton, MD 
Comments:  Yeager came off the bench to ignite the Bulldogs, helping Bowie State runoff 20 unanswered fourth quarter points in Saturday's key divisional win at Elizabeth City State.

Specialty Player of the Week: Austin Turner, Fayetteville State

Position:  Kicker  Height:  6-0  Weight:  247  Class:  SO  Hometown:  San Diego, CA 
Comments:  Turner kicked 2 of 3 field goals from 28 and 40 yards out. He punted 9 times for 408 yards, averaging 45.3 yards...3 inside the 20 and 1 touchback...longest punt of 60 yards...6 kickoffs averaged 62.7 yards with 2 touchbacks. Total KO yards were 376. 

Coach of the Week: Kenny Phillips, Fayetteville State 

Comments:  Fayetteville State utilized its defense and capitalized on Shaw's mistakes to defeat the Bears 29-28 on national television. FSU now has the Western Divisional lead.
