Five CIAA Players named Lindy's Pre-season All-Americans

June 2, 2010

Three defensive players and two offensive linemen from the CIAA have been named to Lindy's Pre-season Division II All-America Team.  Elizabeth City State defensive lineman Malcolm Jenkins and Virginia Union offensive lineman David Mims were named to the first team while Bowie State DB Kenneth Turner, Livingstone DB Alkeem Deloatch and Shaw OL Markus McElveen were named to the second team.

Last season Jenkins, who hails from Florence, NJ, was a member of the 2009 All-CIAA Defense First Team. He topped the CIAA in both sacks (11.5 for 65 yards) and tackles for loss with 22.5 for 105 yards. His sack and tackle for loss totals ranked 5th and 2nd respectively in NCAA Division II in 2009. He also tied at fourth in the conference in forced fumbles and twice was named CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Turner (Oxon Hill, MD / Oxon Hill HS), was a member of the 2009 All-CIAA Defensive Second Team. He topped the CIAA in Passes Defended (14), tied for third in conference interceptions (5) and ranked sixth on the team in total tackles (32).

Deloatch, a senior defensive back from Halifax, NC, had an impressive season for the Blue Bears recording 94 tackles in 10 games for Livingstone which led the CIAA.  Deloatch also record eight tackles for loss, along with one sack, one interception, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Offensive lineman McElveen (Norwalk, CT) anchored a staunch Shaw offensive line that allowed the Bears to lead the CIAA in scoring offense (42.1 points per game) and total offense (387.4 yards a game).   The therapeutic recreation major will be a senior this season.
