WEEK-ONE HSRN NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK FAN POLL NOMINEES

Hartly, DE – The 2010 college football season kicked off in
full swing yesterday on the Division II level and the Heritage
Sports Radio Network (HSRN) national player of the week fan poll
voting has started. Each week, HSRN will announce a national
player of the week from both the top DI-FCS and Division II action.
The top performance each week will be selected and the HBCU fans
across the country will get a chance to cast their vote for who
they think had the best game. The Fan Poll is designed to get
fans involved with the excitement of the HBCU college football
action. Fans are asked to log on to HSRN.com and cast their
vote for the top performance. Fans can vote on the poll this
evening (Sun. Aug. 29) thru Tuesday (Aug. 31) until 7pm ET.
This week the only action was on the Division II level and the
nominees are:
Octavious Hawkins – Winston Salem St.
– QB – 6’2, 210 – JR/Hollywood, FL
Hawkins completed 18 of 23 passes for 207 yds and two
touchdowns. His performance led the Rams of Winston Salem St.
to a 47-13 win over Virginia Union.
David Carter – Morehouse – RB – 5’10, 220
– SO/Marietta, GA
Led the Maroon Tigers to a big 34-27 overtime win over conference
rival Benedict. He finished the game with 155 yds rushing on
30 carries with three touchdowns. His third touchdown of the
game was a five yarder that sealed the game in overtime.
Malcolm Jenkins – Elizabeth City St. –
DE – 6’5, 235 – SR/Florence, NJ
Jenkins finished the game with seven tackles (5 solo, 2 assisted),
one (1) sack for a loss of three yards, two (2) and a half tackles
for a total of 10 yds, a forced fumble, a fumbe recovery, two pass
breakups and eight (8) QB hurries. His performance helped the
Vikings to a 45-27 win over JC Smith.
Stan Jennings – Albany St. – QB – 6’2, 235
– JR/Marietta, GA
Jennings completed 13 of 19 passes for 267 yds and three
touchdowns. In his first start as a Golden Ram, he got his
first touchdown pass on a 58 yard connection with LiRonnie
Davis. ASU defeated Kentucky St. 42-12.
