WSSU’s Tehvyn Brantley, Shaw’s Darnell Evans Headline CIAA Football All-Rookie Team

HAMPTON, VA – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association released today the 2010 All CIAA Rookie Team for
football with players representing ten different CIAA institutions.
Winston-Salem State University’s Tehvyn
Brantley (Durham, NC) and Shaw University’s
Darnell Evans (Madison, NJ) headline this
year’s team as Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year
respectively. The team is voted on annually by the CIAA Sports
Information Director’s Association.
Brantley was voted as the CIAA Offensive
Rookie of the Year after holding down a starting wide
receiver position for the Rams this season. Brantley caught 38
passes for 608 yards and five touchdowns this season. He ranks 4th
in the CIAA in total receiving yards (608) and 5th in the CIAA in
receptions per game (4.2). Brantley had a season-high eight
receptions for 143 yards in a win over Johnson C. Smith and 166
yards receiving with two touchdowns in a win over North Carolina
Central University this season.
Evans, CIAA Defensive Rookie of the Year, held
down starting defensive back position for the CIAA Southern
Division Champions, Shaw University. Evans collected 34 tackles
this season with 22 solo tackles and 12 assisted tackles. He
currently leads the CIAA in passes defended (17) and pass break ups
(10). He also has six season interceptions, tied for first in the
CIAA. He led the CIAA in interceptions most of the 2010 season.
