LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — The post-season recognition continues for Lincoln University linebacker Brucelee Sterile.
The Miami native was named to the Daktronics Inc., All-Super
Region 1 Second-Team Wednesday, becoming LU's first recipient of a
national award as an active Division II Institution.
The exclusive list spans the East Coast with schools from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), Northeast 10 Conference, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC).
A product of North Miami Beach High, Sterile was named Second-Team All-CIAA last month following a third tremendous season. His 90 tackles ranked fourth in the conference, and the 9.0 stops-per-game average was 32nd in the nation. His 14 tackles for loss were fifth in the CIAA. He also matched a career-high with three sacks.
By season's end, he had five double-digit tackle games bringing his career total to 13 en route to leading the Lions in tackling in each of the program's three seasons. Twice Sterile was named CIAA Linebacker of the Week, first coming against Howard University on Oct. 2 and most recently on Oct. 30 against Saint Paul's College.
Sterile was just one of three members of the CIAA to be recognized. Joining him were Walter Sanders of Saint Augustine's College and Malcolm Jenkins of Elizabeth City State, both of whom were selected to the First-Team and were the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year for the conference.
“God is good and my faith has carried me a long way,” Sterile said. “I believe I am an All-American player and my efforts will be recognized someway and somehow. I appreciate everybody that supports me as well as my teammates and coaches for helping to this status. I look forward to next year to having our team recognized nationally.”
Anchoring one of Division II's premiere defenses, Lincoln finished 2010 ranked fifth in the nation in passing defense and 18th in total defense, allowing 143.3 and 270.5 yards per game, respectively. Those figures also ranked third and first in the CIAA.
With a year of eligibility remaining, Sterile, who owns the single-season tackle record with 97 as a freshman in 2008, has 275 career stops including 38 for losses and seven sacks.
