CIAA Football Players of the Week- Week One

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN- Bryan Garnett, Elizabeth City State University
Height:  6-2  Weight:  330  Class:  Sr  Hometown: Charlotte, NC
Comments:  Garnett led an offensive line that blocked for 372 yards; including 277 in the air- only giving up one sack. ECSU's quarterback threw for 240 yards while the ECSU offensive line blocked for three touch downs on the ground and two in the air. 
 
 
RECEIVER- Corey Young, Virginia State University
Height:  6-2  Weight:  180  Class:  SO  Hometown: Virginia Beach, VA
Comments:  Young led the Trojan receiver corps with 71 total yards; with his longest reception of 48. Young scored a 10-yard touchdown in the second quarter. 
 
 
OFFENSIVE BACK- DaRonte McNeill, Elizabeth City State University
Position:  Tailback Height: 6-1 Weight: 205 Class: So Hometown: Elizabeth City, NC
Comments:  McNeill carried the ball 19 times for 82 yards with an average of 4.2 yards per carry. He accounted for two touchdowns on the evening; one rushing- the other a 75-yard touchdown reception. He finished the day with two catches out of the backfield and only lost one rushing yard vs JCSU. McNeill finished with a game high 158 all-purpose yards. 
 
 
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN- Malcolm Jenkins, Elizabeth City State University
Position:  DL Height:  6-5  Weight:  235  Class:  Sr  Hometown:  Florence, NJ
Comments:  A four-time Preseason All-American, Jenkins began his senior campaign with a bang with seven tackles (five solo, two assisted); a sack for a loss of three yards; 2.5 tackles for a total loss of 10 yards and a forced fumble.  He is also credited with a fumble recovery, two pass breakups and eight quarterback hurries. 
 
LINEBACKER- Delano Johnson, Bowie State University
Height: 6-4 Weight: 237 Class: Jr. Hometown: Baltimore, MD
Comments: Johnson tallied a game-high 14 tackles (nine solo and five assisted) and had two tackles for a loss of six yards.

 
DEFENSIVE BACK- Shawntez Jones, Livingstone College
Height: 5'11 Weight: 203 Class: Jr. Hometown: Goldsboro, NC
Comments: Jones, in his first game as a Blue Bear, tied for the team lead with seven tackles including 2.5 for a loss. Jones also forced and recovered one fumble for Livingstone.
 
 
ROOKIE- Kenay Hawks, Virginia State University 
Height: 5-8 Position: Running Back  Weight: 190  Class: FR  Hometown: Virginia Beach, VA
Comments:  Hawks rushed for a total of 61 yards on 11 carries- with a long of 32 yards in the Trojans’ win against Livingstone. 
 
SPECIALTY- Jamel Moore, Livingstone College
Position: KR Height: 5'10 Weight: 185 Class: Jr. Hometown: Williamston, NC
Comments: Moore setup the only score for the Blue Bears Saturday. Moore returned a kickoff for 82 yards to the Trojans' 8-yard line; which set up Livingstone's only touchdown of the afternoon.
 
COACH- Waverly Tillar, Elizabeth City State University
Comments: The Vikings were victorious in their season opener over Johnson C. Smith with a 45-27 win at home.
