OFFENSIVE LINEMAN- Edawn Coughman , Shaw
University
Position: OL Height: 6-6 Weight: 300
Class: Sr. Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Comments: Coughman anchored a line that allowed the Bears to
score 57 points and roll up 425 total offensive yards in Shaw's
57-27 win over Virginia Union. The Shaw starting offensive line did
not allow a sack on the evening.
RECEIVER- Jona’ Harris, St. Augustine’s
College
Position: TE Height: 6-4 Weight: 250
Class: SR Hometown: Fairfield, CA
Comments: Harris led the Falcons with five receptions for 87
yards, including a leaping 10-yard catch over a defender in the end
zone for a 20-17 road win over Catawba.
OFFENSIVE BACK- Kevin Atkins, Shaw University
Position: QB Height: 6-2 Weight:
216 Class: Sr. Hometown: Durham,
NC
Comments: Atkins led the Bears’ offense on their way to
their 57-27 victory over Virginia Union. Atkins threw for four
touchdowns and 212 yards in only three quarters of play. At
quarterback, he led the Bears to build a 41-14 lead in the three
quarters he played, and led the Bears on both quick strike and
methodical drives- that ate both the clock and yards. On the night,
Atkins was 16-of-29 for 212 yards and no interceptions.
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN- Malcolm Jenkins, Elizabeth City State
University

Comments: Jenkins stayed true to form against I-AA Central
Arkansas, finishing with seven tackles (three solo, four assisted)
including 1.5 for a loss of seven yards and a sack for a loss of
six yards.
LINEBACKER- Bekewele Amadi, Bowie State
University
Position: LB Height: 5-10 Weight:
215 Class: So Hometown: Riverdale,
MD
Comments: Amadi was a real terror on defense, tying for
game-high tackle honors with 12 total tackles (six solo and six
assisted), two tackles for a loss of 11 yards, one forced fumble,
one fumble recovery and one pass breakup.
DEFENSIVE BACK- Charles McKenzie, St. Augustine’s
College
Position: CB Height: SR Weight:
5-11 Class: 185 Hometown: Warner Robins,
GA
Comments: McKenzie had three pass breakups and eight tackles
in the Falcons' 20-17 shocker over Catawba. McKenzie also recovered
the onside kick with :13 seconds left to seal the win.
ROOKIE- Kameron Smith, Winston-Salem State
University
Position: Quarterback Height: 6-0 Weight:
187 Class: R-So Hometown: Garner,
N.C.
Comments: Smith led Winston-Salem State to a come-from-behind
victory over the North Carolina A&T Aggies. He accounted for
two second half touchdowns with WSSU trailing 7-3. He completed
5-of-11 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. Smith also rushed for
85 yards and the game-winning touchdown in a 21-14 win over the
Aggies.
SPECIALTY- Danny Heimrich, Elizabeth City State
University
Position: P/K Height: 5-11 Weight:
190 Class: Jr Hometown: Southern Pines,
NC
Comments: Heimrich connected on his first field goal of the
season; a 39-yard score against Central Arkansas. He also punted
five times for 180 yards (long of 48 yards) including two inside
the 20-yard line. Heimrich had a kickoff average of 57.8 yards
(five kickoffs); a total of 289 yards on the day.
COACH- Michael Costa, Saint Augustine's
College
Comments: Costa led the Falcons to their second straight
victory over Catawba in the Indians' home opener. The Falcons also
beat the Indians in Salisbury, NC, in 2008. SAC is the only CIAA
school to have defeated Catawba.
