CIAA Football Players of the Week- Week Nine

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN- Justin Wells, Saint Augustine’s College 
 
Position:  RG  Height:  6-5  Weight:  290  Class:  Sr.  Hometown:  Baltimore, Md.
Comments:  Wells led an offensive line that allowed Walter Sanders to gain 208 rushing yards and help him become the school's first 1,000-yard rusher in a season during the modern era. Wells and the offensive line were big reasons why the Falcons gained 417 yards rushing including a season-high 240 on the ground. This offensive yardage is the second most gained by the Falcons this season. 
 
 
RECEIVER- Joseph Jean-Pierre, Virginia Union University
 
Position:  WR  Height:  6-2  Weight:  215  Class:  JR  Hometown:  Richmond, VA Comments:  Jean-Pierre led all receivers with five catches for 119 yards and a touchdown in VUU's 39-28 win over Saint Paul's College. 
 
 
OFFENSIVE BACK- Walter Sanders, Saint Augustine’s College
 
Position:  TB  Height:  5-11  Weight:  210  Class:  Sr.  Hometown:  Baltimore, Md.
Comments:  Sanders, the CIAA rushing leader, became the Falcons' first 1,000-yard season rusher in the modern era after gaining 208 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries in a 34-24 win over JCSU. It was his seventh straight 100-yard rushing day. Sanders now has 1,177 yards and 14 touchdowns for the season with two regular-season games left. Sanders scored on runs of 13 and 45 yards in the first quarter to help the Falcons jump out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead. He had 117 yards on 12 carries in the first quarter. Sanders added a five-yard TD run in the second quarter. 
 
 
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN- Jason Boyce, Virginia Union University
 
Position:  DL  Height:  6-4  Weight:  260  Class:  SR  Hometown:  Queens, NY Comments:  Boyce led the Panthers with four quarterback sacks for a loss of 24 yards. He also had five tackles for a loss of 27 yards. Overall, Boyce had six tackles on the day against Saint Paul's. 
 
LINEBACKER- Jeremy Cunningham, Fayetteville State University
 
Position:  LB Height:  6-0  Weight:  240  Class:  Sr.  Hometown:  Casa Grande, AZ Comments:  Cunningham, the CIAA's leading tackler, led Fayetteville State with 13 tackles against Livingstone, including three tackles for loss and a sack. 
 
 
DEFENSIVE BACK- Sterling Grant-Jones, Bowie State University
 
Position:  SS  Height:  5-11  Weight:  187  Class:  Sr.  Hometown:  Baltimore, MD Comments:  Grant-Jones has been playing like a man on a mission, leading the Bulldogs defense with a game-high 12 tackles (seven solo and five assisted) and added one fumble recovery against the Vikings of Elizabeth City State. 
 
 
ROOKIE- Hakeem Vinson, Fayetteville State University 

Position:  DE  Height:  6-4  Weight:  280  Class:  Fr.  Hometown:  Smithfield, NC Comments:  The emerging Vinson has been a terror in recent weeks for the Fayetteville State Broncos, culminating that rise with a 13-tackle performance against Livingstone. He added 1.5 tackles for loss. 
 
SPECIALTY- Joseph Goins, Bowie State University
 
Position:  DB  Height:  6-0  Weight:  200  Class:  Fr.  Hometown:  Glenn Dale, MD Comments:  Goins is primarily a special teams player and made a special play in BSU's 20-12 victory over the ECSU Vikings. He blocked an Elizabeth City State punt and recovered it in the end zone for Bowie State's first score of the game. 
 
COACH- Damon Wilson, Bowie State University
Comments:  Wilson picked up a key divisional win over Elizabeth City State, keeping the 5-1 Bulldogs in the chase for the division title with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
