CIAA Football Players of the Week- Week Ten

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN- Edawn Coughman, Shaw University  
Position:  OL  Height:  6-6  Weight:  300  Class:  Sr  Hometown:  Atlanta, GA
Comments:  Celebrating his senior day, Coughman anchored an offensive line that allowed Shaw to accumulate 350 yards of offense- 188 on the ground; as they defeated Winston-Salem State 31-27.

RECEIVER- Jamain Smith, Saint Augustine’s College
Position:  WR Height:  6-0  Weight:  185  Class:  Jr.  Hometown:  Kenansville, NC
Comments:  Smith grabbed five passes for 86 yards, both game highs, in the Falcons’ 33-0 win over Livingstone. 
 
 
OFFENSIVE BACK- DaRonte McNeill, Elizabeth City State University
Position:  Tailback  Height:  6-2  Weight:  180  Class:  So  Hometown:  Elizabeth City, NC
Comments:  Before his hometown, homecoming crowd, McNeill shattered the ECSU record books for yards in a single game (290) and yards in a season (1,241) as he became the first ECSU back to record a 1,000 yard season since 1994. Entering the contest needing 49 yards to eclipse 1,000, he carried the ball 11 times for 290 yards and two touchdowns. Amazingly his two touchdown runs were both 97 yards long and he also had a reception for four yards. He did not lose any yards from scrimmage on the day and had a game high 294 all purpose yards. 
 
 
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN- Malcolm Jenkins, Elizabeth City State University
Position:  DL Height:  6-5  Weight:  235  Class:  Sr  Hometown:  Florence, NJ
Comments:  In his last home game in a Viking uniform, Jenkins tallied four tackles (three solo, one assisted) and had 3.5 sacks for a loss of 16 yards.  Jenkins also logged a quarterback hurry and the first interception of his career- which he returned 19 yards for a touchdown. The Vikings topped Chowan 55-14 for Homecoming.

 
LINEBACKER- Brucelee Sterile, Lincoln (PA) University
Position:  LB  Height:  5-10  Weight:  205  Class:  Jr.  Hometown:  Miami, Fla.
Comments:  Brucelee Sterile had nine total tackles, eight of which were solo. He had two sacks and four tackles for losses combined for a mind-blowing -65 yards. He forced a fumble, and late in the fourth quarter with the game tied at 13, he blocked the extra point, forcing the game to go into overtime. He also had a pass breakup. Overall, Lincoln limited Saint Paul's to just 47 yards of offense, a school record. The Lions combined for 19 tackles for losses of -163 yards and forced four turnovers.

 
DEFENSIVE BACK- Christian Pride, Saint Paul’s College
Position:  DB  Height:  6-2  Weight:  205  Class:  JR  Hometown:  Newport News, VA
Comments:  Pride completed the game against the Lions with five tackles, one tackle for loss and two interceptions. He returned one of those interceptions for 25 yards.

 
ROOKIE- Monte’ Robinson, Saint Paul’s College
Position:  DB  Height:  5-10  Weight:  175  Class:  FR  Hometown:  Portsmouth, VA
Comments:  Monte' Robinson had a big game against the Lions. Robinson finished the game with three interceptions for 61 total yards (first interception had a 45 yd return). He also completed three tackles.
 

SPECIALTY- Preston McCarthy, Saint Paul’s College
Position:  PK  Height:  6-0  Weight:  175  Class:  FR  Hometown:  Lithonia, GA
Comments:  In overtime, McCarthy scored the game winning 44 yard field goal. 

COACH- Darrell Asberry, Shaw University
Comments:  With his team down 14-0, Asberry rallied the Bears to the cause and led them to a 31-27 victory over Winston-Salem State. The win is the sixth in a row for the Bears, and puts Shaw at 6-0 in the conference with a Southern Division title game next week against Saint Augustine's.
 
 
Other Notables…
Notes of Interest:  ECSU sophomore tailback Daronte McNeill eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark and set a new school record for yards in a season (1,241) and yards in a game (290).
 
* Walter Sanders of Saint Augustine's College had his streak of 100-yard rushing games end at eight Saturday when he gained 93 yards against Livingstone. His streak set a modern school record.
 
*Lincoln played its first-ever overtime game on Saturday against Saint Paul's College.
