Charlotte, NC - Johnson C. Smith University Head Football Coach
Steven Aycock and a few student-athletes from the team volunteered
their time at the Levine Children’s Hospital at Carolinas
Medical Center in Charlotte, NC on Friday, September 23rd.
Student-athletes from the Davidson College football team were also
on hand to contribute to the community service effort.
Senior receiver Nick Mata (Tampa, FL), senior linebacker Perrin
Carr (Brandywine, MD), sophomore defensive end Darius Robinson
(Lancaster, SC) and sophomore offensive linemen George Orr
(Brunson, SC) and Jordan Mosely (Columbia, SC) were in attendance
with Coach Aycock and four student-athletes from Davidson. The
group spent time autographing posters, interacting with the
children through games and providing an upbeat environment for the
young patients.
Levine Children’s Hospital is dedicated to caring for
children from birth through young adulthood. Levine leads the
region in offering more than 30 specialized pediatric services
including kidney, liver and heart transplants; blood and marrow
transplant, cardiac and cancer care; neurosurgery; rehabilitation
service; and the highest designated level of neonatal intensive
care.
Levine's mission is to ensure excellent children’s healthcare
by building partnerships between caregivers and families. Their
guiding principles of Quality of Care, Respect for Families,
Partnership and Family Education are at the center of every
decision made.
“This was a very humbling and worthwhile experience,”
said Aycock. “It was good for our guys to be able to give
back. They had an opportunity to take their mind off football and
their own personal circumstances. Seeing these small children
fighting just to be healthy, but maintaining a smile and joy makes
you appreciate your own blessings. Our program has plans to
continue this effort on a monthly basis.”
Both JCSU and Davidson visited the hospital prior to clash on the
field Saturday evening in Richardson Stadium.
