ECSU's McNeill named HSRN Division II National Player of the Week
October 26, 2011 Hartly, DE – Grambling State fans
click the button enough to hold off a close surge on the FCS side
and the Elizabeth City State took over the Division II race for the
second straight week. GSU’s QB Frank Rivers and
ECSU’s Daronte McNeill are the winners of week-seven Fan Poll
voting for the HSRN National Player of the Week. Each week
during the season, HSRN’s staff will select the top
performances from all HBCU action and give the fans across the
country a chance to vote for the Player of the Week.
Grambling State fans held off a surge from the Howard Bison fans,
making sure their star athlete came out on top. In Div. In FCS
voting, Rivers won with 625 votes, QB Greg McGhee (Howard) finished
with 518 votes, QB Damien Flemming (Florida A&M) finished with
133 votes, and RB Isidore Jackson (Bethune Cookman) 40. Div.
II voting has McNeill with 1,234 votes, followed by QB Cameron
Stover (Chowan) 806, LB JacQuan Persley (Kentucky State) 163 and QB
Cameron Pearson (Ft. Valley State) 56. This was the second
straight week that ECSU Viking fans pushed their star athlete to
the Division II award.
HSRN developed the fan poll to get all HBCU alumni, students and
fans involved with the national process and to also give everyone a
chance to consistently keep up with the individual performances
around the country. This web site and our broadcasts are
designed to keep you abreast of all action around HBCU athletic
competition.

Daronte McNeill - Elizabeth City St. - RB- 6'2,
215 - JR/Elizabeth City, NC
McNeill, a previous week seven player of the week winner, has
continued to carry his team with his outstanding play at the RB
position. Last week McNeill rushed for 165 yards on 41 carries. He
scored two rushing touchdowns and his longest was 17 yards. He also
had a 33 yard touchdown pass as the Vikings defeated Bowie State
23-12 to clinch the CIAA Northern Div. title and a berth into the
November 12th CIAA Championship game.
