The CIAA Announces 2011 All-Conference Football Team and Players of the Year

Hampton, VA…The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, in conjunction with the CIAA Football Coaches Association, is proud to announce this season’s honorees for the All-CIAA Football First and Second Teams and Players of the Year. 

This year's All-Conference Team is led by Offensive Player of the Year, Daronte McNeill of Elizabeth City State University.  McNeill leads the conference in rushing 143.5 ypg., 20TDs, 1435 total yards for 308 attempts. McNeil also ranks first in CIAA scoring (128pts), first in scoring touch downs, 21 and leads in all purpose yards 1508, 150.8 ypg.

Defensive Player of the Year, Alton Keaton represents the Winston-Salem State University Rams, where he has finished the season with 78 total tackles (54 solo, 24 assisted). Keaton has racked up eight solo and three assisted tackles-for-loss for nine yards.

Winston-Salem State University's Dominique Fitzgerald is Special Teams Player of the Year.  Fitzgerald tops the CIAA’s Punt Return Average category- returning 15 for 296 yds. and one TD; with a long of 64yds.

The players of the year and all conference teams will be formally recognized at the CIAA Football Championship Luncheon on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Durham Convention Center. This event begins at 12:00pm and is by invitation only.
