Former Chowan Intern joins staff at Richmond.
MURFREESBORO – After completing a one-year internship with
the Chowan football program, Fontel Mines has been named an
assistant coach at the University of Richmond. Mines, a
native of Richmond, will join the staff of Head Coach Danny
Rocco. Mines played for Rocco while he was a student-athlete
at the University of Virginia.
Mines spent the 2011 season coaching the Hawks' tight-ends as part
of an NFL Players Association internship program that matches
former NFL players with colleges and universities across the
nation.
“I think it is a fantastic opportunity for Fontel,”
said Chowan Head Football Coach Tim Place. “Anytime you
have an opportunity to be successful in this profession, it is a
good thing.”
“Fontel was good for Chowan football,” Place
added. “He is a quality individual and a quality
football coach. We are excited for this opportunity that he
now has.”
