Raleigh, NC (June 11, 2017) - Saint Augustine’s University’s Justin Shaw (Rising Sr./Durham, N.C.) was nominated for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team on Monday, July 10. The AFCA Good Works Team highlights a select group of football student-athletes for their tremendous commitment to making life better for others.

Shaw, a fullback and linebacker who majors in sport management, is among 146 student-athletes nominated by sports information directors because of his work in the community. He helped build a Raleigh, N.C. home through Habitat for Humanity and helped kids with their classwork at Bunn (N.C.) Elementary School.

A voting panel featuring two-time national champion and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow will select the 2017 Good Works Team which will be announced in September. The squad will consist of 22 recipients – 11 from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II and III and NAIA.

In order to meet the criteria set forth by the Allstate Insurance Company and the AFCA, each student-athlete must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining a strong academic standing. AFCA is the acronym for American Football Coaches Association.
