Trojan Golf Competes at 2011 NCAA Regional Golf Championships

The 2011 CIAA Golf Champions, Virginia State University Trojans, competed in the 2011 NCAA Atlantic/East Men’s Regional Golf Championship on May 2nd- 4th in Hummelstown, PA at The Hershey Links G.C. Virginia State University had a total score of 954 (+90) and finished in 20th place.

The Trojans started the Regional Championships with a first day score of 309 and they were tied for 14th place. Mike Swope led VSU after the first day with a score of 73. Day 2, the Trojans fell behind and finished in 20th place, Staurt Larus and Stephen Grenchi both shot 79 but VSU accumulated a total of 321 points falling behind Concordia College by six strokes. Stephen Grenchi led VSU on the final day with a score of 78. VSU again placed 20th with a score of 324. 

The Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College won the NCAA Atlantic/East Men’s Regional Golf Championship  with a score of 871 (+7). Clarion’s Drew Schmader shot a four-under par 212 to be the individual champion. Millersville University served as host for the event.

Staurt Larus led VSU with a total score of 237 twenty-one-over par and  tied for 73rd place after shooting 79, 79,79. 

Brian Wood and Mike Swope finished tied for 83rd place with a score of 240 twenty-four-over par.

Wood shot 77, 82, 81 and Swope fired a 73, 81, 86. 

Stephen Grenchi finished in 90th place with a score of 242 twenty-six-over par. He shot 85, 79, 78 for the championship.

Rashad Hunt shot a thirty-five-over par 251 landing him a 100th place finish at the NCAA Atlantic/East Men’s Regional Golf Championship in Hummelstown, PA.
