ELIZABETH CITY STATE VIKINGS FALL TO AUGUSTA STATE 79- 53Vikings End Season in First Round of NCAA South Atlantic Regional
March 10, 2007
AUGUSTA, GA- The Elizabeth City State University Vikings fell to
the Augusta State University Jaguars 79-53 in the first round of
the NCAA South Atlantic Regional.
The Vikings, who one week ago captured the 2007 CIAA Tournament,
were ousted by the top seeded Jaguars, to end their season at 16-16
overall.
After a tightly contested first half, Augusta State closed the half
on a 9-3 run to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room. The Jaguars
would explode out of the intermission, taking a double digit lead
via a 12-2 run to push their advantage to 55-35 with 11:47 to go.
The Vikings were held to a low 33% shooting from the field and only
converted 5-of-14 shots from the free throw line. Also after making
4-of-8 three pointers in the first half the Vikings, shot an
uncharacteristic 10 three pointers in the second half failing to
convert on any of them.
The Jaguars (24-6) were paced by Tyrekus Bowman's game high 26
points. C.J. Pigford and Anthony Butler were the only Vikings to
register double figures with 17 and 11 points, respectively.
