March 12, 2009
PRINCETON, WV- Elizabeth City State University Senior All-American
Anthony Hilliard has been named to the 2008-09 Daktronics NCAA
Division II All-Atlantic Region First Team as released Wednesday
morning.
Last season, with ECSU as a member South Atlantic Region, he was
named the Co-Player of the Year at the conclusion of his junior
campaign. This season with the CIAA's re-alignment of with the
Atlantic Region Hilliard, the only ECSU player to be named
Conference (CIAA) Player of the Year twice, was named a First Team
All-Region honoree for the third time in his career.
During his career at ECSU Hilliard led the Vikings to their first
CIAA Basketball Title in 26 years, garnering MVP Tournament honors
as sophomore in 2007. His junior and senior campaigns were nothing
short of spectacular as he led the CIAA in both scoring and
rebounding both seasons and helped guide ECSU to their first
back-to-back 20 win seasons since 1970-1972. He ranks 4th all-time
in school history in scoring (1,967 points behind Marvin Trotman,
Arthur Gaskins and Nate Higgs) and is one of only two Vikings to
grab 1,000 rebounds in a career. His sophomore and junior seasons
he was the only men's basketball player to average a double-double
in the CIAA.
On the CIAA career leaders list Hilliard is tied at 29th in
scoring, ranks 13th in rebounds and is 14th overall in steals. As a
First Team All-Region selection, he will now move on to the
national ballot for 2009 All-American consideration.
