Falcons Ranked 24th Nationally In NABC/Division II Poll
February 16, 2010
Saint Augustine's College is ranked 24th nationally in the latest NABC/Division II coaches men's basketball poll, which was released Tuesday (Feb. 16).
The Falcons are nationally ranked for the first time under second-year head coach Lonnie Blow, Jr. The last time they were ranked in the nation's top 25 was during the 2003-04 season.
Blow, who led the Falcons to their first 20-win season since 1997, says the ranking is a great honor.
"It is a tribute to the program," Blow said. "The assistant coaches [MarQus Johnson and Tellis J. Frank, Jr.] and the student-athletes on the team have played a large part in it. It is special anytime you get national recognition."
This is the latest achievement for the Falcons, who currently have the CIAA's best league (15-3) and overall record (21-4). The Falcons are also ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region. They had won 12 straight games before losing Monday at Chowan 82-72.
The Falcons can clinch the Western Division title outright Thursday against Fayetteville State University at Emery Gymnasium. The contest starts at 7:30 p.m. after the women's game.
