Blow, Jr. Named CIAA Men's Basketball Coach of the Year

February 25, 2010

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Lonnie Blow, Jr. of Saint Augustine's College was selected CIAA men's basketball coach of the year Tuesday at the 2010 CIAA Tournament  Basketball Tip-Off Banquet at the Charlotte Convention Center.

Blow was chosen by his coaching peers after guiding the Falcons to one of their best regular seasons in school history. The Falcons won the Western Division title for the first time since 2004 and reached 20 wins for the first time since 1997.

"This is a special honor because the coaches vote on that," said Blow, who is 42-14 in two seasons as Falcons' head coach. "It is always good to be recognized by your peers. The award would not be possible without the assistant coaches and the players."

The Falcons, 23-4 overall, enter Thursday's quarterfinals as the tournament's top seed in the men's bracket. They were ranked 24th nationally for one week and are currently ranked third in the Atlantic Region.

The Falcons, who are two wins away from tying the modern school record, face the Livingstone-Virginia State winner Thursday at Time Warner Cable Arena. Game time is 9 p.m.
