Player of the Week - Notes of Interest

Smith led the Bears, as they held off Virginia State and rebounded from a tough overtime loss to Bowie State. Against VSU, Raheem scored 20 points, made four assists and four steals as the Bears held off a strong second half comeback. Against Bowie State, the Bears, led by Smith, surged back from a large halftime deficit to send the game into overtime.

In two games this week, Sharpless averaged a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. He came off the bench to lead all scorers in the Vikings' win over Johnson C. Smith.

Goldsmith scored 14 points, made two blocks and two steals in the Vikings' win over Johnson C. Smith. 

 

Coach of the Week

Jim Tribbett, Chowan University

Jim Tribbett helped coach his team to a 2-0 week with big wins over CIAA Eastern Divisional opponents, Elizabeth City State University (1/4) and Bowie State University (1/9). This week's wins improved Tribbett and his squad to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the CIAA. Hawk senior Jaleel Nelson, entered the 1,000 point club this week.

Player of the Week - Notes of Interest

Bryant scored a career-high 41 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in a 74-60 win over Virginia Union. This effort logs as the most points scored by a CIAA women's player this season- by 13 points. In her two-year collegiate career, Bryant has scored 30 or more points, three times. Bryant averaged 28 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games this week.

Rookie of the Week - Notes of Interest

Manurs played her best week of the season and was key in helping the Blue Bears to a victory over Saint Paul's.  She came into Saturday's game, after two starting guards were forced to the bench due to injury and foul trouble.  Manurs banked home a three-pointer with 10 seconds to play to tie the game in regulation and force overtime.  She finished the game with a career-high 17 points.

Gill, a junior from Mobile, Alabama, averaged 11.5 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots in two games this week.

 

Coach of the Week

Jacques Curtis, Shaw University 
Coach Curtis led the Lady Bears to two critical wins this week. After defeating Bowie State, Shaw handed Virginia State its first conference loss, 51-44, on Saturday. Shaw is now one of three one-loss teams in conference play.
