Record season for the senior
December 14, 2010
Charlotte, NC – Johnson C. Smith University senior guard
Ronald Thornhill scored his 1,000th career point with his nine
point performance in the 80-77 win over Saint Paul’s College
on December 13th. Thornhill is currently first on the team in
points scored with 115, second in points per game and fifth in the
CIAA in scoring; averaging 16.4 points per contest.
Thornhill, a 5’7, 157 lbs. shooting guard from Lawrenceville,
VA has scored double figures in five of the seven games played by
the Golden Bulls. Earlier this year, he finished with a career-high
of 40 points during the JCSU Tip-off Classic against Newbery
College. Thornhill set a new school record for most three pointers
made in a single game with 10, the previous record of nine was held
by Columbus “Green Light” Parker (1990) and Antoine
Sims (2002).
In the game against Newberry, Thornhill was nine points shy of
tying Parker’s school record for most points scored in a
single game. Jackie Wilson (1967), George Cooper (1975), Walter
Hurd (1989), and Parker (1990) all scored 49 points in a particular
contest for the Golden Bulls.
Last season, Thornhill scored 357 points and ranked 27th in nation
(Division II) for three-point field goals per game (3) and 38th in
three point field goal percentage (40%). He scored 330 and 199
points during his sophomore and freshmen seasons, respectively. The
Golden Bulls won the CIAA Tournament Championship during
Thornhill’s first two seasons at JCSU.
“I knew I was close to a 1,000; my mother really keeps up
with my stats, I just try to help the team win,” said
Thornhill.
Thornhill becomes the 24th Golden Bull to score 1,000 or more
points in their career.
Johnson C. Smith is off to a 3-4 start in the standings and returns
to action on Thursday, December 16th against Virginia State
University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Brayboy
Gymnasium.
