Player of the Week - Notes of Interest

Trevin Parks continues to represent the conference as one of the best scorers in the nation. He poured in 62 points this week, including a 28-point performance on the road against Virginia Union. Parks produced 23 points against long-time rival Livingstone College to lift his team to a 74-69 divisional win on the Blue Bears' home court. He has also added 13 assists and shot 91.6% from the free throw line this week.

Newcomer of the Week - Notes of Interest:

Malik Alvin continues to pace the Shaw squad, averaging 22 points and four assists per game this week.  He also continues his hot shooting hand, hitting 61% from the floor and 70.6 percent from beyond the three-point line. He also missed only one free throw on the week, hitting ten of eleven. In Shaw's overtime win over Elizabeth City State, Alvin had 25 points and six assists.

Rookie of the Week - Notes of Interest:

Bethel averaged 15.0 points and 4.3 rebounds this week. Against #21 Bowie State, Bethel shot 8-13 from three-point territory. He is now shooting 54.2% from beyond the arc this season. His 27 points against BSU are the most by any Chowan player this season. 

 

COACH OF THE WEEK
Cleo Hill, Jr., Shaw University 
Cleo Hill, Jr.'s Shaw team was nationally ranked this week for the first time since 2002-2003 when the NABC ranked them 23rd. The Bears continued their winning ways this week, improving to 15-2 on the season and stretching their winning streak to 11 games. With wins this week over Elizabeth City State, Lincoln (PA) and cross-town rival Saint Augustine's, the Bears are now 7-0 in the CIAA and 1-0 in the Southern Division.

Player of the Week - Notes of Interest:

Keyona Bryant averaged 21.7 points and 13 rebounds in three games last week. In addition to 21 points, she had a career-high 18 rebounds and two blocks versus Chowan. Bryant had 22 points and 13 rebounds versus Elizabeth City State and 22 points and eight rebounds against Shaw.

Newcomer of the Week - Notes of Interest:

Sequoyah Griffin continued to make her presence known as Shaw moved deep into the conference schedule.  In Shaw's three wins this week, Griffin averaged 12 points. In Shaw's 99-53 win over cross-town rival Saint Augustine's, Griffin had 14 points.

COACH OF THE WEEK
Stephen Joyner, Jr., Winston-Salem State University 
Joyner, Jr. has continued to lead the Lady Rams through their season with a pair of wins this week. He led the Lady Rams to a 94-44 win over Lincoln (Pa.), the second largest margin of victory in school history, and a road win at Fayetteville State. With the two wins, Joyner, Jr. has led the Lady Rams to nine straight wins, including keeping the team a perfect 7-0 in the CIAA.
