Raleigh, NC – Saint Augustine’s University basketball standout Quincy January (Jr./Atlanta, GA) has been recognized as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine for his accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
January, who has a 3.46 grade point average, was a second-team selection among the basketball Sports Scholar male athletes in the country. The sport management major averaged 16.8 points and 10.3 rebounds and was chosen CIAA Defensive Player of the Year in the 2016-17 season. The Falcons forward led the CIAA in rebounds and tied for second in field goal percentage (58.0). He ranked ninth nationally in Division II in double doubles (16).
The publication established the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Awards to honor undergraduate students of color who best exemplify academic and athletic achievement. Diverse magazine honors tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr. by highlighting these student-athletes. To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically, compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be active on campus or in the community.
