Shaw Bears Lead Golden Bulls Of JCSU By Three Points In Men’s Tennis Action

PETERSBURG, VA – The Shaw University Bears hold a narrow
three-point of lead over the Johnson C. Smith University Golden
Bulls after the first day of competition in men’s doubles
action from the 2006 CIAA Men’s Tennis Championships from the
campus of Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA.
The Golden Bulls and Shaw Bears met in all three finals matches at
the first, second and third doubles flights with Shaw sweeping the
titles from the Golden Bulls.
At first doubles, Shaw’s Ibrahim/Munar defated JCSU’s
Stuckey/Douglas 8-2 to give the Bears their first eight points of
the day.
At second doubles, Shaw’s Enitan/Ameh defeated JCSU’s
team of Burton/Wesley 8-4 to increase the Bear’s lead to two
points overall.
The lead would move to three points when Shaw’s
Bamigbade/Sabogal defeated JCSU’s Dixon/McKoy 8-2.
Virginia State placed two teams in third place with North Carolina
Central University earning a bronze-medal finish once.
After the first day of competition, the Bears have a three-point
advantage over JCSU as they have tallied 24 points to the Golden
Bull’s 21. Virginia State has recorded 17 points and
North Carolina Central possesses 15 points headed into singles
play.
All eight teams return to action on Thursday morning at 8:00 AM as
the singles competition begins and runs through the afternoon.
