VSU OUSTED FROM NCAA MEN'S TENNIS TOURNEY

Virginia State University's men's tennis team, making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, was elminated from the tourney when West Virginia Wesleyan College downed the Trojans 5-0 in the semi-finals of the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Thursday (May 7) in Bloomsburg, Pa.
WVWC's Rafael Cavalcante downed VSU's John Lanier 6-1, 6-1 at number-one singles and West Virginia Wesleyan's Doug Hornak defeated Virginia State's DeWayne Dixon 6-0, 6-0 at number-five singles.
In doubles action, the team of Alvaro Ochoa/Doug Hornak of WVWC defeated VSU's Lanier and Robert Dunham 8-4 at number-one doubles.
WVWC's team of Daniel Lobo/Rafael Cavalcante downed VSU's William Richardson and Amir James 8-0 at number-two doubles.
WVWC completed the doubles sweep when Luis Cruz/Danilo Franciscon stopped VSU's Travis Jones and Daron Jack 8-0 at number-three doubles.
The remainder of the matches went unfinished due to the 5-0 West Virginia Wesleyan lead.
VSU finishes the 2009 season at 13-7 while West Virginia Wesleyan raised it's record to 18-4.
