Women’s Tennis Tenth in NCAA’s Atlantic

(Raleigh, NC) – The Shaw University men’s tennis team has been ranked number one in the Atlantic Region by the NCAA. The NCAA has ranked the women’s tennis team tenth in the region.
The top-ranked Bears are 20-1 on the season with their only loss coming to Division I Longwood. They have a perfect 13-0 mark in the CIAA.
In the last two weeks, the Bears have beaten the then second, third and eighth ranked teams in the region with wins over Charleston (WV), Bluefield, and Winston-Salem State, respectively. Charleston has dropped to eighth in this week’s rankings, while Bluefield remains at third and WSSU rises to fifth.
The Lady Bears are 12-7 on the season and 11-2 in the CIAA after two 5-4 losses to seventh ranked Winston-Salem State. California (PA) is the top ranked women’s team in the Atlantic Region.
Both the Bears and the Lady Bears close out their regular season Sunday at 5:00 p.m. when they host Chowan at Biltmore Hills Park. They begin their quest for the CIAA Championship on Thursday, April 21 on the campus of Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA
