CIAA Award Winners: Men’s and Women’s Tennis All-CIAA Teams and Players of the Year Selected
Hampton, VA… Spirits are high as CIAA Men’s and
Women’s Tennis Championship play begins this Thursday, April
19 in Petersburg, VA. The Men’s and Women’s
Coaches Associations have selected their annual honorees for
All-Conference and Player and Rookie of the Year; bringing formal
accolades, this evening at the CIAA Spring Sports Awards Ceremony
on the campus of Virginia State University.
This year’s award winners on the women’s side features
Women’s Player of the Year, Lolia Kienka (#1/SR/5-9/Lagos,
Nigeria) of Shaw University and Women’s Rookie of the Year,
Natalya Kamenshchikova (#1/FR/5-4/Novosibirsk, Russia) of the
Chowan University Hawks.
Kienka, at the #1 Position for the Lady Bears, finished the
regular season ahead of the conference with a 17-1 overall record
and is undefeated (14-0) in conference play; while Kamenshchikova
follows in second place with a 20-1 overall record; 13-1 in the
conference at the #1 position and 7-0 at #2.
Men’s Player of the Year Artur Latypov (#1/SR/5-5/Ufa,
Russia) tops the CIAA at the #1 Position with a 14-2 overall and
11-1 conference record; while Winston-Salem State Ram, Leandro
Imaz, takes this year’s Men’s Rookie of the Year honor.
Imaz is currently 15-2 overall and 9-1 at #1, 4-1/#3 and 2-0/#4 in
CIAA play.
