North Carolina Central To Battle Bowie State For CIAA Softball Title-Game Berth

PETERSBURG, VA - Following a wild first day of action that saw several favorites drop decisions to lower seeds, and which saw NCCU’s Casey Rodriguez hit a pair of home runs in the same inning, the dust has cleared and North Carolina Central University will face Bowie State University with a CIAA title-game berth on the line on Friday afternoon at 12:30 PM in the first 2006 CIAA softball championships semifinal game from the campus of Virginia State University on Petersburg, VA.
The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Eagles are the last two unbeaten teams in the double-elimination format championship and the winner of Friday’s contest will advance to the title game with the loser relegated to the consolation bracket.
In other consolation-bracket action on Friday the Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams will face the Virginia State University Lady Trojans in a rematch of opening-round action (in which the Lady Trojans defeated WSSU 4-1) with he loser being eliminated.
The Johnson C. Smith University Lady Golden Bulls will face the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University in a loser-goes-home game as well.
Both contests are slated for 10:00 AM from the Petersburg Sports Complex in Petersburg, VA.
Day one saw the Lady Bears of Shaw University and the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College eliminated from contention as both teams picked up a pair of losses.
Six teams remain in contention for the 2006 CIAA Women’s Softball Championship title, with the finals being played on Saturday, April 22, 2006 from the campus of Virginia State University.
