North Carolina Central To Face Bowie State/Winston-Salem State Winner For CIAA Softball Title

PETERSBURG, VA - The table has been set for the 2006 CIAA Women’s Softball Championship title-game as the unbeaten North Carolina Central University Lead Eagles will take on the winner of the Winston-Salem State/Bowie State game on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 PM from the campus of Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA.  The Lady Eagles opponent will be either the Lady Rams or Lady Bulldogs and will be decided in a 10:00 AM semifinal game to be held on Saturday morning.

Heavy rains forced the postponement of the WSSU/BSU contest that was originally scheduled for Friday evening at 5:30 PM.  The Lady Eagles await the winner, whom they need to beat only once to capture the title, in Saturday’s Championship game that has been slated for 12:30 PM, weather permitting.

The Lady Eagles are in complete control of their own destiny as they sit in the Championship Game unbeaten and on the verge of yet another CIAA softball title.  Their opponent, either the Lady Rams or Lady Bulldogs, will be fresh off of a pair of consolation-bracket wins and faces the most daunting of tasks as they need to defeat NCCU twice to capture the double-elimination format championship.

Day two action saw the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University defeat Virginia State University 3-1, and defeat Elizabeth City State University 9-1 as WSSU eliminated both teams, setting up a match-up with Bowie State University for the right to face North Carolina Central in the title game.

The contest between BSU and WSSU, slated for 5:30 PM was washed out due to heavy rains and will be help on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM (weather permitting)
