BOWIE STATE ELIMINATED 2-0 BY SHIPPENSBURG IN NCAA SOFTBALL REGION

(LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - May 9, 2009)  Win or go home was the theme of game four of the NCAA Atlantic Softball Region.  Unfortunately, the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University dropped a 2-0 decision to Shippensburg (Pa.) University to end their season.

Shippensburg (25-18) broke a scoreless game in the top of the fourth inning when Hope Cornell belted a solo home run to left field for the Lady Raiders.  Cornell led off the top half of the sixth with a double to right center and Lisamarie Ramagli singled, scoring Cornell and increasing Shippensburg lead to 2-0.

Bowie State continued to struggle at the plate until senior Tiffany Toney got the first Lady Bulldogs hits of the regional.  However, Toney was left stranded at first heading into the final inning.

Bowie State had one last chance in the bottom of the seventh and made it very exciting.  Senior Heather Enders led off with a walk and moved to third on a double by freshman Shanae Smoot.  Unfortunately, senior Ashley Cook struck out looking and sophomore Danielle McClay flew out to center to end the game.

Lori Knopf picked up her 16th pitching victory of the season, going the distance and striking out four. Cornell and Ramagli led Shippensburg with two hits in three plate appearances each.

BSU senior pitcher Heather Enders allowed six Shippensburg hits, struck out four and wraps up her Lady Bulldogs season with a record 13-4.  Toney and Smoot garnered Bowie State's only hits of the game.
