Chowan eliminated from Atlantic Regional Playoffs
BLOOMSBURG, PA - The Chowan University softball team's season
came to an end today at the 2010 NCAA DII Atlantic Regionals after
losing to West Virginia Wesleyan University 8-2. The Hawks
completed the season with a 31-24 overall record. West Virginia
Wesleyan moves on in the loser's bracket to play Indiana
University-PA. Bloomsburg University awaits the winner of that game
in tomorrow's championship game.
Chowan tallied seven hits in the game while West Virginia Wesleyan
garnered 12 hits. Chowan got down 4-0 before they answered with a
run 3rd inning on a Fahren Munro bunt single that scored
Kaytee McLaughlin from third base. The Hawks pitching couldn't hold
off WVWU's offense as they went on to score four more runs for the
8-2 win.
Christie Wright started the game for Chowan on the
mound. She gave up four runs on three hits and walked four batters.
Jessica Farmer came in for relief of Wright. She threw
the final 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and
striking out two batters.
Munro ended the game 1-3 at the plate with one RBI. She made
several tough plays at shortstop for the Hawks on the defensive
side of the ball. Alex Allen was 1-1 with a run scored
and McLaughlin went 1-3 with a run scored.
Chowan's season comes to an end at 31-24 overall. The
Hawks claimed stake their first CIAA Championship and
first-ever NCAA DII post season appearance this season.
