Chowan Softball Participates in Random Acts of Kindness

MURFREESBORO – The Chowan University Softball team is in
full stride already, and softball season is still months away.
Recently, the squad participated in their first “Random Act
of Kindness” to lend a hand in the Murfreesboro community.
The lucky recipient was Mary Harris, who works in the Chowan
Business Affairs department and is a longtime supporter of Hawks
athletics.
The team surprised Mrs. Harris and helped perform various duties
around her house. “I felt like the Publishers Clearing House
knocked on my door,” said Harris. “It was like having
my own children show up and pitch in where needed.”
Team members helped by washing her car, mowing the lawn, trimming
bushes, and other tasks to spruce up Mrs. Harris' yard – and
day. "I saw such a wonderful camaraderie amongst the girls; a
willingness to do just about anything,” she said.
Senior Alex Allen expressed her feelings on helping out in the
community: “Random Acts of Kindness is one of my favorite
community service projects we do. I love giving back to the people
who work so hard to make sure we (student-athletes) have the best
experience possible. This is an opportunity we have as a team to
let them know their hard work and generosity do not go
unnoticed.”
“This is just one way to thank the Chowan community and these
staff members who support us. We simply could not be where we are
without them,” said head coach Amanda Balduf.
