Annapolis, MD – The Bowie State University women’s indoor track and field teams opened the 2017-2018 season at Navy’s Lid-Lifter on Tuesday (12/5) afternoon.
Leading the Bulldog women was Soljala Jones in the high jump, going over the bar at 1.50 and tying for third place. Jones also competed in the long jump and finished 13th overall with a jump of 5.15m.
Alexa Stewart competed in the 60 meter dash and placed 12th with a time of 7.91 and the 200 meter dash, finishing with a time of 25.81 and a 14th place finish. Krystal Simpson placed 12th in the 200 meter dash (25.78) and crossed the finish line in 7.97 in the 60 meter dash and placed 15th in the event.
Callie Releford competed in the 60 meter dash, placing 22nd (8.06) and finished 30th in the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 26.45.
Amaree’ Yates finished 31st overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.47.
Bowie State teammates Abigail Hunt and Kaylia Brown placed 20th and 29th respectively in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line with times of 1:01.43 and 1:02.82.
Zuwena Johnson ran the 800 meter run in 2:26.76 and finished 13th overall for the Bulldogs.
Bowie State’s Telicia Farmer was the teams’ only competitor in the mile run, placing 26th with a time of 6:28.05.
The Bulldogs 4x400 meter relay team placed 12th overall with a time of 4:04.54.
As for Bowie State’s field events, the trio of De’Sha Manago, Jordan McDonald and Alana Hunt competed in the shot put and placed 13th, 17th and 19th respectively. Manago had a throw of 11.41m while McDonald and Hunt had throws of 10.96m and 10.77m respectively.
The Bulldogs will break for final exams and the Christmas holiday before their next competition on Friday, January 12th in a one-day event at Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, N.Y.
