Freshman Holds Nation's Best Time in the 400 Meters

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - May 21, 2008 - Freshman sensation Leford Green has been selected as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region Track Athlete of the Year. Green holds the nation's best time in the 400 meters at 45.56.
 
Green, a freshman from St. Catherine, Jamaica, won the NCAA indoor title in the 400 meters this past winter. He ran on Jamaica's fourth-place 4 x 400 relay team at the 2007 World Championships and also clocked 50.51 in the 400 hurdles this spring.
 
The Southeast Region was dominated by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) as all awardees were members of the conference.
