Pierre Set To Run At Beijing Olympics
August 11, 2008
Track and field star Barbara Pierre of Saint Augustine’s
College will compete for Haiti in the women’s 100-meter dash
at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Pierre, a rising junior from Winter Haven, Fla., will be the latest
in a long line of Saint Augustine’s College student-athletes
to compete at the Olympics. She is the two-time NCAA Division II
national 100-meter and 60-meter champion. This is her first
Olympics.
Three former Saint Augustine’s College student-athletes are
competing at the Olympics in track and field as well. Bershawn
Jackson of the United States and Adrian Findlay of Jamaica are
participating in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, and Kia Davis
of Liberia is running in the women’s 400-meter and 200-meter
dashes. Jackson, the 2005 400-meter hurdles world champion,
advanced to the Olympics by winning his event at the 2008 U.S.
Olympic Trials in June.
The preliminary rounds for the women’s 100-meter dash and
women’s 400-meter dash start Aug. 16. The men’s
400-meter hurdles prelims begin Aug. 15, and the women’s
200-meter dash prelims are set for Aug. 19.
