Pembroke, NC – The men and women’s Outdoor Track teams
of Shaw University launched their season in top style as they
finished first in several of the events at the UNC-Pembroke Braves
Classic. Rescheduled due to rain, the sunshine was a beautiful
backdrop for the level of excellence by the Bears teams.
The men’s team won three events that included the 800 Meter
Dash by William Stanley with a time of 2:03.33. Clinton Rogers,
Kenny Britt, William Stanley and Carrington Jones took the 4x400
Meter Relay with a time of 3:26:04 and Akeem Banks won the Discus
Throw with a distance of 36.58. Eric Simmons took 3rd place in the
400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 60.23. Michael Hines took 3rd in
the High Jump with a distance of J1.88m (6-02.00); he placed 4th in
the Long Jump with a distance of 6.56m (21-06.25). The 4x100 Meter
Relay team took 3rd place with a time of 43.78 featuring Clinton
Rogers, Nuri Hasan, William Stanley and Carrington Jones.
A perfect compliment to their counterparts, the Lady Bears won four
events. Delilah Badgett stole the 100 Meter Dash with a time of
12.40 and Cherell Williams placed 2nd with a time of 12.61; Chloe
Frame placed 4th with a time of 12.79. Badgett won the 200 Meter
Dash with a time of 28.55; Frame placed 3rd with a time of 26.84,
Williams placed 5th with a time of 27.78 and Monique Green placed
6th with a time of 28.08. Raychelle Johnson won the 800 Meter Run
with a time of 2:34.43 and Ashley Ligon held 2nd place with a tme
of 2:36.58. Shareka Mitchell was the top finisher for the 400 Meter
Hurdles with a time of 70.03. The Bears dominated this event as
Jerrica Johnson finished with a time of 74.87; Ray’Keisha
Toomer finished 4th with a time of 76.35 and Ashley Clement rounded
out the event at 5th with a time of 1.24.26. The Lady Bears
dominated the 100 Meter Hurdles by placing 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th and
7th; Mitchell finished 2nd with a time of 15.69 and Jerrica Johnson
was at 3rd with a time of 16.27.
This was a great performance by the Bears and the Shaw Family
salutes their excellence and victorious performances! The Bears
will compete March 27th and 28th in the Adidas Raleigh Relays.
