St.Aug's Pierre Sweeps 100, 200 At Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. – Olympic sprinter Barbara Pierre
(Junior/Winter Haven, Fla.) of Saint Augustine’s College won
the women’s 100 and 200 dashes on a rainy day Saturday (March
28) at the 2009 Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track on the campus of
N.C. State University.
Pierre, a six-time Division II national champion who ran the 100
for Haiti in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, ran 11.60 seconds in the
100 and 24.05 in the 200. Oludamola Osayomi of Nike was second in
11.69 and Lashawn Wright of Iowa State University was third in
11.75 in the 100. In the 200, Nicole Castronuova of Wake Forest
University was second in 24.07 and Angelique Smith (Freshman/Union
City, Calif.) of Saint Augustine’s College was third in
24.17.
Saint Augustine’s College won the men’s 4x200 relay in
1:22.71 and the men’s 4x400 relay in 3:05.95, edging Wake
Forest in a dramatic 4X400 race. Dennis Curry of the Falcons came
from behind to pass the Wake Forest runner before crossing the
finish line. Wake Forest was second in 3:05.98.
Johnny Shuping (Junior/Klerksdorp, South Africa) finished second to
Brent David of Eastern Michigan University in a close race in the
men’s 800 Invitational. David won in 1:51.26 followed by
Shuping in 1:51.28.
Joe Kindred (Senior/Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) was third, Brandon Quarles
(Junior/Phoenix, Ariz.) was fifth and Michael Williams
(Junior/Murfreesboro, N.C.) was 10th for the Falcons in the
men’s triple jump. Richard Boone (Junior/Petersburg, Va.) was
fourth in the men’s 200.
Andrea Powell (Freshman/Richmond, Va.) of the Lady Falcons was
sixth in the women’s long jump and the Lady Falcons were
seventh in the 4x100 relay.
