Kindred Receives National and Regional Track and Field Accolades
May 21, 2009
Sensational jumper Joe Kindred (Sr./Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) of
Saint Augustine's College was chosen 2009 Division II outdoor men's
field athlete of the year by U.S. Track & Field and Cross
Country Coaches Association on Wednesday.
That means Kindred, named 2009 Division II indoor men's field
athlete of the year in March, swept both national awards this
season. He also was the nation's top outdoor male field athlete in
2008.
Earlier in the week, Kindred was named 2009 Atlantic Region outdoor
men's field athlete of the year. He claimed the same award for
indoor events in March.
Kindred, the defending national high jump champion, will be
shooting for a different sweep during the 2009 NCAA Division II
Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which started Thursday in
San Angelo, Texas. He is qualified in three events: long jump,
triple jump and high jump. He ranks first nationally in the high
jump (7-5), second in the triple jump (52-3.75) and third in the
long jump (24-9.75).
Kindred won CIAA conference outdoor titles in all three jumping
events to earn CIAA men's field most valuable performer in April.
