Twenty-Three CIAA Athletes earn All-America Track Honors

Twenty-three student-athletes from CIAA schools were named Division II All-Americans in outdoor track and field Monday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) after their performances at the NCAA Championships over the weekend in Charlotte, N.C.

The group was led by fourteen student-athletes from Saint Augustine's College.  Nine St. Aug student-athletes were on the men’s team which captured the NCAA Division II title. The Falcons scored 82 points to outdistance Abilene Christian by 20 points. Five student-athletes were on the women’s team which placed 11th.

A total of 336 student-athletes will receive 434 All-American awards. The student-athletes gained All-American status by finishing in the top eight of their events at the championship meet held at Johnson C. Smith University. Saint Augustine’s College led the way among men’s teams with 20 awards.

Josh Scott won the most All-American awards for the Falcons with four. Scott swept the 200 and 400, and was part of the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. He is one of four student-athletes and the only male at the meet to win four or more All-American awards.

The Falcons were one of four CIAA schools with All-American performers. Johnson C. Smith had six, and Bowie State, Virginia State and Virginia Union had one each.
