St. Aug's Jackson earns Male Outdoor Visa Title at USTAF Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa – National 400-meter hurdles champion
Bershawn “Batman” Jackson earned $25,000 after he was
named male outdoor winner of the Visa Championship Series on Sunday
at the 2010 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at
Drake Stadium. The award is given to the top American male and
female finisher determined by a points-based system after a series
of nationally televised USA Track & Field events.
Jackson, a former Saint Augustine’s College standout, scored
1,256 points to edge 110-meter hurdles national champion David
Oliver by one point. Jackson vaulted to the top of the men’s
Visa standings after winning his third straight 400 hurdles
national crown Saturday in 47.32 seconds, the world’s fastest
time this year. He was rewarded the $25,000 bonus after winning his
first Visa title.
In other action Sunday, former Saint Augustine’s College star
Joe Kindred finished tied for ninth place in the men’s high
jump (7-2.5), and Josh Scott of Saint Augustine’s College did
not finish his semifinal heat in the men’s 200-meter dash.
Scott advanced to the semifinal round by winning his Saturday
preliminary heat in 20.86 seconds. He ran the fifth-fastest prelim
time entering Sunday’s semifinals.
The USATF Championships concluded Sunday.
