Saint Augustine’s College 4x400 Relay Team Sits Atop Indoor Track Rankings

Saint Augustine’s College has the best men’s 4x400 relay team according to the latest Division II indoor track and field rankings released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Tuesday.

The foursome of Kelly Fisher, Jason Boyd, Josh Edmonds and Antonio Abney ran 3:11.44 at Virginia Tech last weekend which is the nation’s best time this season. The time automatically qualifies the team for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 11-12 in Albuquerque, N.M.

Individually, Ramon Gittens is ranked third nationally in the 200 dash and fifth in the 60 dash, and Abney is third in the 400 dash for the Falcons. Boyd ranks third in the 60 hurdles and Christopher Copeland is fourth in the high jump. Orolando Duffus is fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump.

In the women’s rankings, Kelly Shaw ranks fourth in the 400 dash. The women’s 4x400 relay team is second.

The Falcons are second in the men’s team rankings. Lincoln (Mo.) is the top-ranked team with 165.84 points followed by the Falcons with 159.40 points and Ashland with 134.83 points. Grand Valley State is atop the women’s poll with 295.42 points followed by Ashland with 173.51 points and Lincoln (Mo.) with 160.05 points. Johnson C. Smith is sixth with 88.42 points and Saint Augustine’s College is 13th with 54.98 points.

The Falcons are the top-ranked men’s team in the Atlantic Region with 386.33 points. Shippensburg is second with 272.69 points and Lock Haven is third with 263.87 points. Bowie State is fourth with 167.60 points, Johnson C. Smith is eighth with 114.43 points and Winston-Salem State is 10th with 81.88 points.

Johnson C. Smith is first among women’s teams in the Atlantic Region with 225.58 points while Shippensburg is second with 214.66 points and Slippery Rock third with 205.60 points. Virginia State is fourth with 184.91 points and Saint Augustine’s College is sixth with 148.96 points. Bowie State is eighth with 124.67 points.
