Saint Augustine’s College’s Regains No. 1 Ranking In National Indoor Track Polls

A strong performance by Saint Augustine’s College over the
weekend propelled the Falcons to the top spot in the latest NCAA
Division II men’s indoor track and field rankings released
Tuesday by U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches
Association.
The Falcons nudged ahead of Lincoln (Mo.) by a 169.49-160.90 score
to move back in first place. The teams switched places from last
week when Lincoln was first followed by the Falcons.
Freshman Josh Edmonds led the Falcons with times of 21.58 in the
200-meter dash and 47.71 in the 400-meter dash at the Penn State
Nationals last Friday. His times in both events are fourth-best in
Division II this season.
Edmonds also is the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay team which posted
a Division II season-best time of 3:09.36 at Penn State. The
quartet includes Jason Boyd, Kelly Fisher and Antonio Abney, who
had the season’s fifth-fastest 400 time of 47.87. Orlando
Duffus had the season’s sixth-longest leap of 15.11 meters in
the triple jump at the meet for the Falcons, who are also ranked
first in the Atlantic Region.
The Lady Falcons moved up one notch to 12th this week with 57.39
points in the women’s national rankings. Individually, Kelly
Shaw ran the season’s sixth-fastest time of 56.48 in the 400,
and Andrea Powell had the season’s seventh-best high jump of
1.70 meters at Penn State. Kirsten Bowens turned in an effort of
11.84 meters which is the nation’s seventh-highest triple
jump this season for the Lady Falcons, who are ranked fourth in the
Atlantic Region.
The Falcons and Lady Falcons will defend their CIAA crowns on Feb.
12-13 at the CIAA Indoor Championships in Hampton, Va.
