ANTHONY CURETON RECEIVES “HERCULES SCHOLAR” FROM TOM JOYNER FOUNDATION
Johnson C. Smith is the TJMS HBCU of the Month
Washington, D.C. – JCSU sophomore
track and field student-athlete Anthony Cureton has been named the
“Hercules Scholar” by the Tom Joyner Foundation.
Johnson C. Smith University has been selected as the school of the
month (February 2011) by the Tom Joyner Foundation. As part
of that designation, Cureton, a computer science major with a minor
in biology, was honored as a “Hercules
Scholar.”
Cureton was recognized on the air (02/03/11) by the Tom Joyner Morning Show. The student athlete maintains a 3.9 GPA and is a student ambassador in the president’s office. His life motto: “Stay Strong.” His future career goal is to become a reconstructive cosmetic surgeon.
Established in 1998, the Tom Joyner Foundation's mission is to support Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States. All funds raised by and donated to the Foundation are used for scholarship support for students with financial need and to ensure the sustainability of institutions.
Cureton is a native of Warren, Michigan and competes for the Golden Bulls in the hurdles for the men’s indoor and outdoor track and field team. He is also an acrobatic member of the Luv-A-Bulls cheer squad as a stunter and tumbler.
