LEFORD GREEN NAMED DIVISION II ATLANTIC REGION TRACK ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Second time winning the honor
New Orleans,
LA – Johnson C. Smith University senior Leford Green
has been announced as the Division II Atlantic Region Track Athlete
of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country
Association (USTFCCCA) for the NCAA DII Indoor season. Other
regional athlete and coaches honors were named and will be on hand
for the 2011 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships
set for March 11-12, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Green, a native of St. Catherine, Jamaica, heads into the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships with the fastest time in the 400 meters at 47.03 seconds and as anchor leg on Johnson C. Smith’s second-ranked 4×400-meter relay. Earlier this season, he won the 2011 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association 400-meter title and anchored the team’s 4×400-meter relay to a third-place finish.
At the conclusion of the 2010 Outdoor Track and Field season, Green was named Atlantic Region and National Track Athlete of the Year.
During this season’s CIAA Indoor Championships, Green won the conference crown in the 400m dash with a time of 47.48. Green is ranked No. 1 in DII for the 400 meter event. Green was also one of the inaugural honorees for the USTFCCCA All-Region award. He earned honors and will compete in the 2011 NCAA DII Indoor Championships for the 4x400m relay and 400m dash.
Before the 2011 NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, NM (March 11-12), JCSU will head to Blacksburg, VA for the VA Tech Last Chance on March 5th.
