NCCU VOLLEYBALL'S MATTHEWS LEADS NCAA IN KILLS

DURHAM, NC - North Carolina Central University junior outside
hitter Shari Matthews continues to the lead the NCAA in total
kills (769) and kills per game (6.35).

Matthews, a native of Bridgetown, Barbados, now holds NCCU
records for kills in a match (42) and kills in a single
season (769). In fact, among all colleges and universities in
NCAA Division I, II and III, Matthews ranks second in kills per
game.
Matthews, a five-time Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association
(CIAA) Player of the Week, is second on NCCU and in the NCAA
in total service aces (91) and is second on the team in total digs
(414). Matthews leads the CIAA and ranks ninth in the NCAA in
aces per game (0.85) and eighth in hitting percentage (0.399).
NCCU senior utility player Latoya Tate leads the NCAA in total
service aces (95) and her 0.79 aces per game rank No. 6 in
the NCAA.
The 95 service aces recorded by Tate, rank second in school
single-season history.
The 91 service aces recorded by Matthews rank third in NCCU
single-season history and her 414 digs rank fourth in school
single-season history.
