January 23, 2008
Greensboro, NC - Shaw University's #1 Sharetta Riggins (Middle Hitter / Right Hitter / 5 - 8 / Junior / Kinesiotherapy / Alexander City, AL) adds yet another accolade to her athletic resume. Upon conclusion of the 2007 CIAA Volleyball Championships, Riggins was a hands-down vote to the 2007 CIAA All-Tournament Team. Now, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association has chosen to shine the spotlight on Riggins as she is honored to the 2007 College Division Volleyball Second Team.
Riggins was one of sixteen student-athletes, out of 11 different
institutions, recognized with the prestigious honor. The Junior led
the Lady Bears with 3.36 kills per game, ranking fourth in the
CIAA. She was second on the team with 2.48 digs per game, while
ranking third with 22 service aces.
The squad consists of student-athletes from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges and universities throughout the state. North Carolina sports information professionals submitted nominees and NCCSIA members selected the teams. The all-state first team unit consists of one setter, two outside hitters, two middle hitters/blockers, one right-side/opposite hitter and one libero/defensive specialist. The second team includes two setters and three outside hitters due to ties in the voting.
