VSU Lady Trojans? Adopt a Family for Thanksgiving

VSU Lady Trojans’ Adopt a Family for Thanksgiving

November 23, 2005

In the spirit of giving and staying in touch with your surrounding communities, the Virginia State University Lady Trojans’ Basketball Team enjoys doing their part. Several years ago Coach Evans was an assistant basketball coach at the University of D.C. in Washington, DC. She worked part-time in the Human Services field in the Washington, DC area. Coach Evans was a counselor for at-risk youths and families with Human Services needs.

Working with people everyday who have far less than what we have, pushed Coach Evans to make a heart felt effort to help those in need as much as she could. With that said she always adopted a family during the holiday season and gave them a Thanksgiving Basket filled with food. When she became the new head women’s basketball coach at UDC, Coach Evans continued to give back to the community. She was climbing the latter of coaching success, but never losing sight of those families with needs.

Now at Virginia State University, Coach Evans is still sponsoring families with needs and she has the Lady Trojans participating in the giving spirit. During her season at VSU, Coach Evans and the Lady Trojans sponsored three families during the holiday season. This Thanksgiving season, the Lady Trojans’ theme is “Lady Trojans’ Thanksgiving Adopt A Family”. Working with Healthy Families, which is a part of the Department of Health in Petersburg, VA, the Lady Trojans have prepared to give away 20 Thanksgiving Baskets.

Pastor Andrew White of Zion Baptist Church will help determine which families will receive the Thanksgiving Baskets. Included in each of the baskets are a turkey, ham, yams, greens, gravy, cranberry sauce and bread. This is such a wonderful idea and a wonderful way to give to people who really our help and love. VSU Lady Trojans enjoys doing their part for the community.
