March 21, 2007
ATLANTA -- North Carolina Central University senior forward Cassie King has been selected to the 2007 NCAA Division II Kodak/WBCA All-America Team, claiming Honorable Mention status for the third consecutive season, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced Wednesday (March 21).
A native of Wendell, N.C., King led the Lady Eagles to their first
CIAA Championship in 23 years, earning Tournament M.V.P. honors
after averaging 21.7 points per game during the three-game title
run. She also helped the team to a second straight NCAA Division II
playoff appearance and the program's highest-ever national ranking
of No. 19 in the USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll
(March 7).
Among the CIAA statistical leaders, the three-time all-conference honoree finished second in scoring (16.5 points per game), third in blocked shots (2.0 blocks per game), sixth in field goal percentage (50.4 percent), 11th in rebounding (7.9 boards per game) and 11th in steals (2.31 steals per game).
On Jan. 6, King recorded just the second "triple-double" in Lady Eagles history by amassing 26 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocked shots at Fayetteville State.
The school's all-time leading scorer, King's 2,150 career points ranks fourth all-time in the CIAA, while her 1,076 career rebounds ranks seventh in league history. King is only the second player in CIAA history and 15th player in NCAA Division II women's basketball history to amass more than 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
