AIKEN, S.C.--With regular season play and conference tournaments completed, the 2007-08 Daktronics Division II Women's Basketball South Atlantic All-Region teams have been released. Five of the 10 players selected will be competing in this weekend's NCAA Division II Tournament. Each of the three conferences in the region are well represented. The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) had five selections while the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) received three and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) had two honorees.
Celeste Trahan of Elizabeth City State University has been selected as the 2007-08 South Atlantic Region Player of the Year. Joining Trahan on the First-Team are: Anna Atkinson (Wingate), Tiara Good (Lander), Meredith Legg (USC Aiken), and Syretha Marble (North Georgia).
The Second-Team members are: Kyria Buford (Johnson C. Smith), LaShonda Chiles (Lander), Tonique Frasier (Newberry), Kaneetha Gordon (Armstrong Atlantic State), and Stephanie Neptune (Tusculum).
Trahan, a 6-2 senior center from Stockton, Calif., is a two-time Daktronics All-American. She led Division II in scoring (23.7 ppg) and rebounding (15.9 rpg) while being named the CIAA Player of the Year. In addition, the three-time All-Region honoree recorded 25 double doubles in 27 games. Trahan became the first female in Division II history to score 2,000 points and grab 1,500 rebounds.
Atkinson, a 5-6 junior guard from Marion, N.C., led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring at 15.4 ppg while ranking first in the South Atlantic Conference in assists (8.7 apg). The 2008 SAC Player of the Year led Wingate to a 23-7 record including the 2008 SAC Tournament Title and a number one seed in this weekend's NCAA South Atlantic Regional.
Good, a 5-10 senior guard from Jonesville, S.C., keyed Lander's late season run to a share of the 2007-08 Peach Belt Conference Regular Season Championship in addition to winning the 2008 PBC Tournament and earning the Lady Bearcats a spot in the NCAA South Atlantic Regional. Good finished second in the PBC in scoring, and 13th in Division II, at 20.4 ppg. For the second-straight season, Good was selected as the PBC Player of the Year.
Legg, a 5-9 junior guard from Huntersville, N.C., earned Peach Belt All-Conference honors after leading USC Aiken to a share of the 2007-08 Peach Belt Conference Regular Season Championship, their first since 2001-02. The premiere shooter in the region, Legg averaged a team-best 17.0 ppg, fifth best in the league. In addition, her 3.5 made threes per game ranks second in Division II. Legg led USC Aiken to its second-straight 20-win season.
Marble, a 5-9 junior forward from Canton, Ga., led the Peach Belt Conference in scoring at 20.6 ppg. For her efforts, Marble was named All-Conference. She finished 12th in Division II in scoring and 24th in rebounding at 10.1 rpg.
