Shaw Women's Assistant Basketball Coach Named to NCAA Academy

Raleigh, NC - Shaw University Women's Assistant Basketball Coach Charisse Perry was recently tapped to attend the NCAA Women's Coaches Academy June 6th - 10th in Atlanta, Georgia.
Perry is the first Women's Basketball Coach at Shaw to be named to
the Academy. She completed her fifth season and prior to
joining the Shaw University staff, Perry was a member of the Lady
Bears basketball team. As a senior Perry helped her team achieve a
31-3 record, the second most wins in Shaw history and won the 2003
CIAA Championship as well as the University's first Sweet Sixteen
appearance. She earned a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Mass
Communication in 2003 and starting her coaching career with the
Lady Bears.
Joining the staff in 2004, Coach Perry has helped the Lady Bears continue their "Legacy," gaining the most wins in the University's history with a 32-2 record, along with a 3-peat CIAA Championship, 3-peat National Black College Championship, the University's first South Atlantic Regional Championship and a 2005 NCAA Elite 8 appearance. In the 2005-06 season, she assisted the Lady Bears to a 29-5 record, winning their fourth consecutive CIAA Championship, Back to Back South Atlantic Regional Championship as well a Back to Back 2006 NCAA Elite 8 appearance. In 2007-08, the Lady Bears finished first in the CIAA winning their fifth CIAA Championship in the past six years.
Perry is involved with all aspects of the Lady Bears program including academic coordinating, monitoring study hall, video scouting, game film break down, daily practice instruction, coordinating print media, scheduling, supervising all non-coaching personnel, development of wing players and development of the team's defensive system. She is a member of the WBCA and is completing her 4th term as WBCA Division II Conference Captain for the CIAA.
The NCAA Women Coaches Academy provides skills training for coaches at all levels to assist them in being more efficient, productive, resourceful and successful. It gives coaches the opportunity to understand their expanding roles along with perspectives and skills to help them make the most of their situation. In the company and understanding of other coaches, they will have the opportunity to talk and listen with others to gain support and learn new tools and strategies.
